teazin2-643From the first pulsing notes of the Spanish guitar to the last twinkling of the tambourine, the current show at Teatro ZinZanni, Under the Gypsy Moon, is a delightful evening of romance, music and magic, now playing through June 21, 2009.

It’s another zany night at Club ZinZanni, and Victor the maitre d’ has his hands full with his love-crazed star-crossed wait staff and his big-hearted but extravagant boss, Ricky. Tonight is particularly challenging because Ricky has invited a traveling troupe of gypsies to the tent as his guests. Music, chaos, and romance reigns, as suddenlyVictor must confront his own secret past Under the Gypsy Moon.

Legendary Blues singer and original TZ cast member Duffy Bishop burns up the stage with her soulful stirrings and red-hot passion as Zara, the Gypsy Queen.  New Vaudeville’s Clown Prince Geoff Hoyle serves up several new comic characters.

French acrobats and fifth generation circus performers Charly, Toly and Eddy return as Les Castors, this time to spice things up as gypsy musicians and clowns as well as performing their prized Risley (foot-juggling) routine. The storyline of Under the Gypsy Moon was inspired by the brothers’ personal history  – they are descendents of a young aristocratic woman who was sheltered by a group of gypsies some generations ago. Charly plays the role of Victor, the maitre d’, Toly is Uncle Dchabo and Eddy is a Gypsy musician.

Canadian clown Joe DePaul reprises his role as the hapless but lovable Ricky.  Equally poised with power and grace, elegant equilibrist Elena Borodina performs her breath-takingly sensual hand-balancing act while rola-bola artist Bernard Hazens scales to dizzy new heights.  Making their Teatro ZinZanni debut are local trapeze artists, the sizzling hot Duo Madrona and ruby throated diva Dana Johnson.

Teatro ZinZanni is an independent, non-profit arts organization, created by One Reel, known for producing some of the Northwest’s premier arts events including Bumbershoot: The Seattle Music & Arts Festival, the Summer Nights Concert Series, and The Chase Family 4th, as well as a wide array of literary, educational, and cultural projects. A registered and qualified as a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt public charity, Teatro ZinZanni is dedicated to the communities it serves through performances, education and outreach.  For more information, visit zinzanni.org.
