Teatro ZinZanni continues its highly popular and new late night themed varieté show series Mezzo Lunatico, on Saturday, December 18th. Curated by long-time Teatro ZinZanni performer El Vez (Robert Lopez), the December 18th event puts the X back in X-mas.

Featuring saucy cabaret, crazed circus, live music, dancing and drinks, Mezzo Lunatico is a 21 and older event and contains adult themes. Mezzo Lunatico is held at Teatro ZinZanni, 222 Mercer Street. Doors open at 11:00 p.m. and the show runs from 11:45 p.m. to 1:45 a.m. Tickets are $20 with a two-drink minimum.

This production of Mezzo Lunatico (which translates as “half crazy”) features actor and singer Nick Garrison, the a cappella ensemble Captain Smartypants, burlesque artist The Shanghai Pearl, comedian and juggler Alex Zerbe, acrobats Terry Crane & Erica Rubinstein, Balkan Brass and Drum band Orkestar Zirkonium, and performance artist Mr. Peter Big.

Created by Louise DiLenge, an original founding member of One Reel and the chief costume designer for Teatro ZinZanni, Mezzo Lunatico expands the repertoire of live experiences offered in ZinZanni’s jewel box spiegeltent theatre.

Louise selected long-time Seattle performer El Vez, the Mexican Elvis, (who is also known as Robert Lopez), to curate the first series by inviting a variety of local artists to explore various themes. El Vez currently appears with Christine Deaver and Thelma Houston in Teatro ZinZanni’s smash hit, Hearts on Fire, playing now through January 23, 2010.

Sez El Vez: “In today’s economy, nothing is more important than rediscovering real values. I start with family…not necessarily the family I was born into but, Family in the sense of who I choose to play with. I ask myself, “Hey El Vez! What’s so special about these chosen people?” They are filled with a shared Spirit. A Spirit of excess. Not excess like spending money on stuff. But, excess Joy. So much Joy they can’t contain it. They want to sing about it at the top of their lungs. They want to do back flips because of it. They want to share that simple, larger-than-life emotion in an irreverent romp having little or nothing to do with religion but everything to do with giving. Come get your share…of this ephemeral very late night offering on the 18th under the velvet canopy of Teatro ZinZanni’s spiegletent. Feliz Lunatico!”

Tickets are available online at mezzolunatico.com and by calling the ZinZanni Box Office at (206) 802-0015. Mezzo Lunatico is sponsored by Top Pot Doughnuts and Jones Soda.
